Understanding Your Risk Profile Before You Invest
Investor Education · By Quantora Research Desk · 2026-10-27
Risk capacity and risk tolerance are not the same thing. Knowing both helps you choose an allocation you can actually stick with.
Two sides of risk
Risk capacity is how much loss your finances can absorb. Risk tolerance is how much volatility you can emotionally handle. A sound plan respects the lower of the two.
Why it matters
Investors who take more risk than they can tolerate often exit at the worst time. An allocation you can hold through a downturn is usually better than a theoretically optimal one you abandon.
